I’m so excited to finally show you my Penny Dress! When I saw this new pattern by Sew Over It a few weeks ago, I knew I have to make it. Thanks to my dear friend Bettina I really did!
She was organizing a Blogtour called „Penny Dress Around the World“ and asked me to be part of it. Of corse my answer was YES! I’m not only a fan of the pattern, but love to work with all this talented seamstresses from all over the world.
Since Bettina has brought me a gorgeous Liberty London Print from London, I knew that this has to be the fabric for my Penny Dress. And I’m so glad I’ve chosen this beauty: The fabric is lightweight and airy and the print matches this 1950 inspired dress perfectly.
The Penny Dress itself is kind of a fast sew. It is a simplified shirt dress, but has less technical aspects than a traditional shirt dress. It doesn’t have a collar stand, uses a faux placket, and has a drop shoulder.
According to the measurement charts I am right between a size 10 and 12. I wanted to sew a size 12, but my sewing buddies recommended me to sew a 10, which I did. It turned out to be a wise decision: The dress seems to be rather on the wide side. Since some member of this blog tour reported that the dress is a bit short waisted, I added 1.5 inches to the length of the bodice at the waistline. Thanks to this extra inches the elasticized waist hits me right at the waist.
The original length of the dress is charming. But I wasn’t brave enough to wear it like that. I never wore a dress in this length before and was afraid that I would feel dressed like a granny. So, I took my scissors and shortened the skirt by 3 inches.
If you’r longing to have a Penny Dress by your own, you have a chance to win a copy of the pattern. All you have to do is enter in a Rafflecopter giveaway! There are five patterns that are being given away!
Last but not least be sure to check out all of the other ladies on the tour! You won’t be disappointed! Also, a huge thank you to Bettina for organizing and to Sew Over It for providing the giveaways!

I love this dress on you in that gorgeous fabric!! The length is perfect on you (I kept the granny length and called it „tea length“, HAHA). You are so talented and sweet, and I feel so happy to have been on this tour with you!
Finally!
