What type of sewist are you? Type A, who plans and only buys fabrics for concrete projects? Or rather to type B, who are overwhelmed by fabric beauties? I definitely belong to group B. Worse still, I always have to buy new fabrics because those in my cupboard are so beautiful that I don’t have the heart to cut them…
The untouchables category also included a dark blue wool fabric with silver dots; it had been slumbering for years. But when I saw the coat “Merci” pattern, I knew what I would shape the fabric into.
And… tataaa today I reveal my work! Merci is an elegant coat that captivates with its clear lines and surprises with little highlights. For me these are the frills at the pocket openings. I think they were even the reason why I bought the pattern.
One good reason is also the pattern designer: At Atelier Scammit I know that I am buying an excellently constructed pattern with careful sewing instructions that lead step by step to a beautiful, cleanly finished garment.
Not to be despised, of course, is that the pattern fits me pretty well. I made my usual changes: The sleeves lengthened by 3cm. Well and the back I would have adapted a bit better… It has become a bit narrow, but this is mainly evident when cycling or driving a car.
I lined the coat with diamonds from Cotton & Steel Fabrics. This fabric was also well seasoned. I simply didn’t know what to sew out of it, but you can’t give away diamonds! Now it has finally found its purpose.
The completion of such an elegant coat (I mean, who walks around dressed in diamonds?!) is definitely a reason to celebrate! I think it screams for champagne! Do you agree with me?! Then let’s pop the corks and who knows, maybe the party mood will animate you to transform your own fabric treasures…
