Have you ever sewed linen before? I am almost embarrassed, but so far I had to answer this question with No.
Therefore, the request for a linen design example from Hello Heidi Fabrics came just in time. This week is Linen Week at Hello Heidi. To give you an idea of what you can sew from linen fabrics, 7 bloggers and I each sewed a design example.
I chose Rain for the color. I really like this blue tone. Since the linen yarn has already been dyed before weaving, the result is a pastel, chambray-like look that is typical of ‘Brussels Washer Yarn Dyed Linens’.
This Robert Kaufman linen is a mixture of rayon and linen. It has a soft touch and is comfortable to wear on the skin. Since linen fibers belong to the most resistant and hard-wearing fibers, the fabric seemed to be made for my selected pattern: The Burnside Bibs from Sew House Seven.
Just like when sewing the Tea House Dress or the Toaster Sweater, I was completely convinced by Peggy’s instructions! Each step is not only described in detail, but also excellently illustrated. Even if the Burnside Bibs is a more demanding project, it is still possible for beginners to sew it.
I chose the size based on my hip measurements. This has classified me in size 8. Although I am 2.5 sizes taller at the waist, I decided to sew size 8 without any changes. The pattern contains a lot of ease in the waist, which can be adjusted on the back with the help of the long straps.
The pattern comes in two variants: The first version has a rounded bib and is more fitted thanks to two back darts. The second version contains a straight bib and is much wider due to the missing darts.
I can only recommend the pattern and the fabric! Sewing was a real pleasure and I am completely convinced of the final product. I’m sure if it stops raining someday, my Burnside Bibs will accompany me through the summer! I hope I’ve been able to give you some inspiration and wish you all
Happy Sewing
