This is an absolute premiere for you: You see me in shorts! Something I haven’t worn for about 20 years. Because then, in my teenage years, I had a serious accident. Fortunately, I had not suffered any long-term consequences, only a few scars, including on the leg.
To make my entry into the world of shorts a little softer and a little bit temperature-conditioned I paired the shorts with tights. I bought the pattern for my Chataigne corduroy shorts in an attack of courage two years ago. When Hello Heidi Fabrics asked me if I wanted to be part of her cord week, it was THE opportunity to dust the piece and unpack it!
I sewed the shorts out of corduroy Merlot. The fabric is like made for this pattern. The Chataigne Shorts requires a fabric with some standing so that the pleats as well as the shape are shown to advantage.
The corduroy made of 100% cotton was a dream to work with. And I like this colour sooo much! A nice detail is: The Chataigne Shorts doesn’t even need much fabric: Although the pattern requires 1.40m, I managed with exactly 1m cord.
To make sure the pants really fit, I sewed a sample. According to the measurements I would be between size 42 and 40. I went for safety and chose size 42, with the result that it was much too big. I can confirm what I have also read from other seamstresses: The Chataigne shorts are rather on the large side.
Here sewn in size 40 the shorts fit pretty well. Since I don’t have the figure for which Deer and Doe patterns are designed, I don’t fill the pants at the hips completely. But somma somarum I find the fit almost perfect.
I can say the same about the blouse. Whereby the pattern Abraham is oversized designed and therefore causes less fit problems. The pattern from the collaboration of Tissu Mondial and the designer Coraline Bijasson sent me a dear sewing friend. She has made me sooo happy: The blouse is exactly mine!
Sewn from this high-quality viscose fabric, the blouse falls beautifully soft and flowing. What I particularly like: I can wear my Abraham blouse both with jeans in everyday life or for going out in the evening.
Last but not least, I have a little treat for you: This week at Hello Heidi Fabrics there will be a Cord Flannel Week: Until 03.03.2019 you get a 20% discount on all cord and flannel fabrics by Robert Kaufmann with the code “Kaufman20”. The selection is so big, I’m sure you’ll find something for you!
Happy Sewing
