Today I welcome you in a ladylike Kalle shirt. Thanks to my sewing friends Barbara and Bettina I got this noble garment in my closet. I can tell you, you will hardly find more gifted truffle hunters like them! In their online shop HelloHeidi Fabrics, you’ll find one fabric beauty after another. And Lady McElroy fabrics are now also part of this range.
I was very happy to sew a design example from the Blush Vine Lawn. The lawn of Lady McElroy feels soft, almost silky but rather crisp too, which makes him ideal for sewing shirts. You can check out all the Lady McElroy fabrics over here!
It’s hard for me to resist a pretty paper pattern. And that’s how I felt with the Kalle shirt when HelloHeidi took it into their assortment. Besides, the pattern calls to be sewn out of this pretty Lady McElroy lawn, right?
I sewed variant A, the Crop top with hidden button placket. I had a lot of respect for this hidden button placket. However, it turned out to be surprisingly simple to sew.
Since I feel at least 30 years too old to meet my fellow people with my bare stomach, I have extended Kalle to a blouse that covers my belly. For this I lengthened the front part by 10 cm and the back part by 6.5 cm. I still find the difference in length between the front and back part to be striking enough. And even with a 10 cm extension the top is still rather short
What was a little tricky to sew was the hem. At the transition between front and back the seams come together in a pointed piece where you have to sew 100% accurately. Rounded up I came to about 90%…
I had some difficulties with the sleeve cuffs and the collar. They were both too long. It’s possible that I didn’t sew 100% exactly and that’s why it didn’t work out. In any case, I sewed the cuff to the blouse first and only shortly before the end, closed the cuff on the short side. At the collar I measured the neckline, added 1.5 cm at the outer end and cut the collar in this length again.
All in all I found the sewing instructions in the booklet to be a bit short. But this has to do with the fact that the pattern contains three different variations. But since there is a Sew-along with photo instructions for Kalle, you will be guided there step by step to your goal.
Make sure to check out the other Lady McElroy fabrics available at Hello Heidi, and follow their instagram or facebook accounts to see the other Lady Mc Elroy makes that will be blogged during this week.
