Finding a pattern for a pretty airy summer dress is not that easy, especially if you have very clear ideas… The dress should be wide at the waist, and a gathered skirt would be nice, there has to be pockets and oh, dropped shoulders would be perfect!

All the more I was happy when I found exactly such a pattern: Robe Guinguette by Cousette Patterns! The dress can be sewn in a shorter as well as in a longer maxi version. I chose the shorter version, because I’m going to wear it more often and it didn’t ask for that much fabric.

The pattern has 13 pieces, but the dress is sewn surprisingly fast. It certainly helps that the dress has neither zippers nor button plackets.

As you can see I played a bit with the stripes: I cut the stripes in the middle front part, as well as in the back part vertically. Otherwise I stayed with the actual running direction of the fabric, i.e. longitudinal stripes.

And because I liked the result very much and the way was rather short, I sewed myself a second Guinguette dress.

Like the first one, the second dress is made of viscose. I got both fabrics from my favourite fabric shop HelloHeidi Fabrics. The glittering striped fabric was provided to me by the Heidis for this design example. With the floral fabric I bought myself a piece and they were so sweet and gave me some leftovers.

As the Robe Guinguette pattern consists of various pieces, it is ideally suited to use smaller pieces of fabric. I sneaked around this Cloud9 organic fabric for about half a year. Since I didn’t know what I could sew out of it, I forbid myself to buy it. Therefore I am all the more pleased that in the end the fabric became such an eye-candy.

Unfortunately I have bad news for you: I already bought the last bit of the flowery Cloud9 fabric. Sorry, not sorry… But the good news is: the blue viscose twill with copper lurex strip still has it. If you are fast enough…

Either way, I wish you all
