meetMilk Blouse “Pernille” & Lady McElroy “Jutta” Skirt

Pernille Blouse by Slow Sunday Paris and Jutta Skirt by Fibre Mood made by Frölein Tilia

If you have the image of a protein shake in mind at meetMilk, then I’ll tell you a secret: meetMilk is a small Danish fabric label that produces fabrics you’ve always wanted to wear. High-quality fabrics that feel silky, are breathable and cool in summer and warm in winter due to their high fluid absorption. Fabrics woven from natural fibres; in the case of Lyocell (Tencel) these are made from eucalyptus wood and have an excellent ecological balance thanks to the rapid growth and low maintenance requirements of eucalyptus.

HelloHeidi Fabrics has declared this the meetMilk week; besides mine you will discover many more design examples from Klaras. And since you’ll also need a meetMilk Tencel after reading my post at the latest, you’ll get 15% off the fabrics at the HelloHeidi Shop until Sunday.

I have been provided with this beautiful Twill Medium Tencel in the colour Lemonade. From this I sewed a Pernille blouse after a pattern of the French label Slow Sunday Paris. The pattern is part of the book “Homewear” Caroline published last year. And it was because of this pattern that I bought the book.

The blouse is relatively short, so I lengthened it by 7cm. I also want to be able to wear it with trousers without being belly-free. Since the blouse actually ends shortly after the waist, I had to draw the pattern parts in the lower area a little further so that the blouse also fits over the hips.

I didn’t understand the instructions on how to sew the collar even after reading it several times. However, it reassured me that this was also the case for several French women. It wasn’t due to my lack of language skills, but to the fact that it was written in a confusing way. After all, I simply sewed everything at my own discretion. One thing I changed is to draw a facing for the back neckline instead of using a bias tape for finishing.

I sewed a size 44, which corresponds to a German 42. Well and at 44 is also the end, there are no larger sizes. Basically I am quite satisfied with the fit. Next time I might draw the front part a bit narrower.

And now to the skirt: I wanted to show you not only the blouse, but also a matching bottom part. And at HelloHeidi I found the perfect partner fabric: The Marabou batiste in blue by Lady McElroy.  The fabric picks up the salmon/pink tone of the blouse beautifully, do you think so too?

Since I didn’t want to cut the marabus as much as possible, I looked for a skirt pattern with front and back consisting of one piece each. I found this in the pattern Jutta from the current Fibre Mood.

I also liked the fact that the front part of the Jutta skirt is gathered with the help of a tie band, but the back part falls close to the body. I also liked the length: I couldn’t have imagined it 2 years ago, but meanwhile I like this midi length very much.

I’ve had a few sewing failures lately: patterns that didn’t sit right with me despite adjustments or that I just didn’t feel comfortable with. With this outfit, however, I have the feeling that I am completely myself! I feel completely comfortable in it and will certainly wear it on several birthday and family celebrations this summer. Now I wish you…

Happy Sewing
