Today I welcome you in my new Sheona denim dress. I noticed the pattern a while ago. When the Greek designer Athina Kakou asked me if I would like to sew a design example of this pattern, I was very happy and of course said YES!

When I was choosing the fabric, I immediately had a denim jersey in mind. This high quality Nosh Denim fabric has been waiting on my shelf for a long time to become a dress. However, the piece of fabric only measured 1 meter, even if it was 170 cm wide. As a result, my dress became a bit shorter. So I sewed version 3 with a shortened skirt.

I wanted to break the romantic style of the dress a little and give it a cheeky touch. That’s why I sewed a stripe ribbon on the sides of the top. I think it adds a little more thrill without distracting from the rest of the dress.

The length of the cut sleeve had originally been 3/4. Instead of sewing the hem, I sewed a ruffle band to it and extended the sleeve to 7/8. By the way, this frill band is included in the pattern. However, it would be intended for the short sleeves. It is a bit too long for the long sleeves. In retrospect I would have made it 2 cm shorter.

In summer, woven dresses are the non-plus-ultra for me. This autumn it’s jersey or sweat dresses like my Southbank dress or my Sheona dress that I don’t want to take off anymore. P.S. If you would like to present yourself with a Shona dress as well: The pattern is currently on sale.

Happy Sewing
